Michigan Families Say Thanks To Retiring Mailman With Neighborhood Sendoff

(CBS DETROIT) - A Portage neighborhood came together this week saying farewell to a man who passes them by every day. 

U.S. postal worker Larry Doherty announced he is retiring after 47 years.

So to thank him, families along his normal route put up signs and decorated their mailbox.

After 21 years serving this neighborhood, he says the job meant more than ever.
