Ask A Detroit Expert: What To Wear To A Summer Concert

Between Chene Park's scenic view of the Detroit river to the amazing acoustics at the Detroit Jazz Festival, a Detroiter has plenty of appealing options to experience live music this summer. Summer may be in full swing yet there is still plenty of time to enjoy a great summer concert in style.

Whether it is a festival or concert, the idea is to have fun while looking good and being comfortable. Dressing for a concert can be effortless and fashionable with a few simple items. Here are a few ideas on what to wear for a summer concert:

Romper

This one-piece outfit is very simple and practical for a concert. It's causal, carefree and perfect for a hot day. No need to match or pair up separates here. Slip on a pair of wedges or gladiator sandals to heighten the look.

Summer Jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is a very trendy and fashionable statement for a concert. It's very light and provides more coverage than a romper for a breezy night. Florals, patterns, and bright colors really make this summer trend pop.

Maxi Dress or Mini Sundress

A sundress is very feminine and versatile. It can be styled in multiple ways to fit any occasion. A maxi dress takes the work out of worrying. The air material of a typical dress allows for easy movement and is long enough to provide a little coverage against mosquitos buzzing around.

A mini sundress comes in handy on a very hot day where less is better. A mini sun dress offers just as much style as a maxi dress without the extra material when dancing to music. Pair a maxi or mini dress with a light wrap or a jean jacket to keep warm at night.

A Simple Tee with a Pair of Skirt or Shorts

Depending on the music and venue, a very relaxed look is preferable and common for a summer concert. A pair of shorts and a graphic t-shirt is hip, without too much fuss.

A t-shirt could also easily be swapped out for a crop top, if preferred or a delicate off-the-shoulder blouse. If the goal is to be very causal and very feminine, then a skirt with a plain t-shirt provides a very easy, cool concert look.

Accessorize It

Like any ensemble, a concert look is not complete without a few accessories. Don't forget a pair of chic shades and the right hat to shield away from the heat and tame the fly-away-hair.

Avoid a big floppy sun hat as it may be too fussy and obstruct others' view at a concert. Instead, opt for a straw hat or summer fedora. Both will easily compliment any of the mentioned looks, no matter how casual or dressed up.

Shoes are also very essential at a concert. They should not only have a look but should be comfortable for plenty of walking and standing. Consider a trendy flat sandal or a low wedge. A funky new sneaker is also a fun, casual choice that will defiantly keep your feet feeling good.

Lastly, top it all off with a cross body, straw or bucket-style purse. A handbag that is light but has many compartments and that makes it convenient to access everything works best for a concert.

To shop these looks, check out Détroit Is The New Black in downtown Detroit and Pitaya in Royal Oak. They offer plenty of clothing and accessories that will help create that ideal concert look. Keep these ideas in mind to ensure a fun experience with plenty of style for the next big concert in town.
