Fighting Cancer a Step at a Time

The CW50 Street Team laced up their sneakers and walked for a great cause. The annual Redford Relay for Life took over Allison Park to raise money for cancer research. Crowds of supporters, volunteers, caregivers and survivors took laps in stride around the track for 24 hours.

The event is held in Redford yearly and thousands of dollars are made to support those who are fighting. Live music from local musicians played as walkers took their laps. Those at the event had the opportunity to purchase sno-cones, hotdogs and cupcakes, with all the proceeds going towards the American Cancer Society. Spending the 24 hours coming together as community is what the event is all about. Each team had an opportunity to decorate their site up as a National Holiday, Halloween and Christmas decorations adored one team's site.

"It's like a community block party," said Theresa Burgess, who serves as the event chair. Those who have lost someone to cancer are given the opportunity to heal through this event, the community gathers in this one place and supports one another, Burgess said.

The CW50 Street Team supports all those who are fighting cancer and we hope to join everyone next year in Redford for another successful year at Relay for Life.
