Since it’s summer, it’s only appropriate to have a reggae/soul night at PJ’s Lager house. The weather is beautiful and PJ’s always has the coldest beer. 1592 is releasing a debut EP and they also have DJ Pocket Sound System spinning throughout the night. Doors are at 9PM with a $10 cover, 21+ only. We recommend heading over early to snag a dank parking spot.
What better place to hold a show than nothing other than…a record shop/bookstore? DUH. Lo & Behold! in Hamtramck is hosting a few Detroit bands, as well as a band from Montreal. They’re going to try and make it an outside show (yay summer!), so make sure to do your rain dance and keep the wet drops away so you can enjoy this kickin’ show. The music is scheduled to start at 7PM, but if it rains, plan on showing up at 8PM.
Well, this show couldn’t be any more exciting! So many great bands all crammed into one venue on one special night! Get ready for some crazy folk, groovy pop, psych-rock and heavy rock n’ roll. It’ll be over-the-top awesome. Cover is $7 and doors are at 8PM.
Ready to go hard listening to some industrial, electronic jams? Well take a peek at the Leland City Club in downtown and get a taste of Detroit’s industrial artists, with a few special guests coming in from out of town! Key and Fluxion A/D (local) will be performing along with other DJ that have yet to be announced. Spend some time getting lost in the carefully constructed noise tonight. Music begins at 10PM.
5. Open Mic at The Bottom Line Coffee House

The Bottom Line Coffee House is hosting an open mic for musicians, poets, jugglers, artists, anyone with a talent really! Sign up starts at 7:30PM and the performances begin at 8PM. This duo is having a release show Saturday night at the Northville Winery and if you’re in the area, we highly recommend checking them out. Their sound is calming and folky, another reason to sip on a tall glass of wine and soak up these earthy jams. Music starts at 7PM with opener, Chris Degnore.
If you’re looking to get your folk, acoustic vibe on, then check out these two singer/songwriters in Plymouth at the Plymouth Coffee Bean Co. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy the tunes without getting too rowdy; a perfect summer night experience. Doors are at 8PM.
Ambient art-punk group Turn To Crime and post-punk rockers Paint Thinner are playing with a few awesome out of town bands at El Club downtown tomorrow at 9PM. Grab a drink and get ready for a grungy night of noise.
Head over the Cadieux Cafe for some impressive vocals and a little more of a pick-me-up with funky electric guitar and groovy bass. This event it 21+ with a $5 cover and the music will begin later in the evening around 10PM. This could be your late-night hot spot! Don’t miss it!
Looking for something a little different? Check out The Appleseed Collective’s live string swing set at O’Mara’s Irish Pub in Berkley! Doors are at 9PM and if rock n’ roll is just a little too much for your Friday night, then these guys are ready to set you off into the sunset of folky showtunes, heavy with strings galore.
We skipped Sunday because, well, we just don’t like Sundays all that much.
