Have I got a deal for you!

By Kris Kelly

I used to write TV commercials for a living.  A lot of them were for local car dealers so perhaps that’s why the latest PR campaign from Livingston County Animal Shelter (LCAC) hit my funny bone and touched my heart at the same time.

Take a look at their flyer (CatfaxFlyer2015_03).  They’re using a “used car salesman” approach to showing off their shelter pets.  Here are some of my favorite lines from the press release and flyer:

“We have all makes and models that can be adopted for the low, low price of only $60. All cats are quality tested and come equipped with four-paw drive, a five-point health inspection, new cat smell and a 100,000 purr warranty.”

“…come down to the shelter showroom, from now until September 23rd, to check out all the latest models of certified, pre-owned cats waiting to be driven off the lot into their new homes.”

“That’s right, $60 Down, 0% Financing and No Payments on all Certified Pre-Owned Cats at the Livingston County Animal Shelter!”

Okay, I admit I’m a sucker for playful writing…and cats.  The press release made me want to try my hand at “selling cats like cars,” so I asked LCAC Director Andy Seltz to send me pics and bios of some of his favorite “models”.  Here’s my sales pitch for a couple of the cuties on LCAC’s adoptable pet list:

Sleek, classy, and just right for the lady in your life. This stylish model will attract attention wherever she goes.

Got a family?  This older, but steady model can calmly handle the bumpy road of life, plus he has enough room enough in his heart for a crowd.

Looking for speed?  This brand-new model is full of zip.  Watch her leave the competition in the dust.

I could go on…and on…and on… but I won’t bore you with more cute cat pictures.  Just go to the Livingston County Animal Shelter website at livingstonlive.org/LCAC and check them out for yourself.  Even better, head on down to the shelter showroom and meet your furever friend.  Why?  Because these deals won’t last!  The hottest “models” are flying out of the showroom now!

Shelter showroom hours for adoptions are: Mondays – Wednesdays – Fridays, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm; Tuesdays – Thursdays, 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Special viewings will take place Saturday, September 12th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Pet Supplies Plus in Howell.

For more information on adopting, call LCAC at 517-546-2154, visit their website, e-mail lcac@livgov.com, or visit the shelter in person at 418 S. Highlander Way, Howell MI, 48843.
