Send Valentines To The Troops And Break A Guinness World Record

By Kris Kelly - Community Affairs Manager for CBS 62/CW50 Detroit

You can show your thanks to the troops stationed overseas and help break a world record at the same time.

The Women Marines Association Motor City Chapter frequently sends cards and packages to servicemen and women stationed overseas, but this month's activity has a twist.  They want to collect at least 3000 cards, all postmarked from Romeo, MI.  This will not only cheer up the troops, but it will break the Guinness World Record for the most cards sent from a single location.

"Participation is easy," said Mary Ann Merritt, President of the Women Marines Association Motor City Chapter. "Simply write out a card thanking our troops for their service, put it into a stamped envelope and add your return address. We will add the addressee."

Individuals, schools, churches and businesses are invited to participate. Color a picture.  Write a note.  Pick up a card.  Get a group together to create a bunch of greetings to show your thanks.  Once you're done, you can drop them off at the Romeo Masonic Temple (Gray's Block) Romeo Village Opera House on either Feb 7th or on Feb 14th.

If you stop by on Feb 7th, Romeo is celebrating its annual "Snow Me The Love" event which includes events like the Downtown Wonka Hunt, Ice Ice Baby and Pet Photo Contest, Sweetheart Ice Cream Social, Kissing Lips Contest, Soup Cook off,  and special crafts and fun for the kids.  Money raised by the merchants on Feb 7 will help pay postage for the troop packing party.

On Feb 14th the Women Marines Association will start the stamp cancellations and attempt to break the record. The Romeo Post Office will be on hand at the Temple to hand cancel each and every card with a special cancellation that says "From Romeo with Love."   The Post Office will also have cards and stamps for purchase on both the 7th and 14th at the Romeo Masonic Temple.

If you are unable to attend you can box up your collected cards and either drop off at Romeo Post Office or mail them in a separate envelope to WMA Motor City, PO Box 590, Romeo, MI 48065

Please help the Women's Marines Association Motor City chapter break the record.
