Reddit user mbingcrosby makes maps of real places with fantastical liberties. His latest work involves the mitten state and its surrounding areas. Think Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones cross it with old-timey geography and a Michigan twist.

On the map you'll find familiar places with new names.

Lansing is renamed "Capitol City" in Greek language.

Detroit is called "The Fallen City" pulling no punches on the city's historic decline.

The Great Lakes are named in a theme that Gordon Lightfoot fans will recognize. Gitche Gumee (Lake Superior) is a translation of an Ojibwe word referenced in the song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". You'll even see the actual ship sinking in the lake.

Ohio State haters will appreciate the shot at the university. The area on the map is labeled "The Buckeye Waste".

U-M Ann Arbor campus gets a shoutout as Maisetblue Arboretum, but nothing noted for poor old Sparty fans.

Other areas on the map that gave me a chuckle include: Ruins of Kellog, The Assembly Line, Poor Clare's Lake, The Three City Valley, Traverse de Cerise, The Creature Known as Dogman, Here be Mishipeshu, Yooperlands and Fudgiland.
