So Thanksgiving has come and gone, December is here, and the holiday season has *officially* started. What better way to get into the holiday spirit than to donate to a good cause? And – BONUS – hear live music from some of the BEST indie bands in the area?
Indie(PEN)dence Benefit Concert will do just that. Taking place this Friday, December 5th, at the Magic Stick in Detroit, the concert will feature music from local Detroit indie bands: The Bruised Reed, The Paper Sound, The Static Dial, and Moonwalks. All ticket sales and proceeds from the event will go directly to help with construction of schools in a developing country. Wayne State University students from the buildOn organization have come together to put on this concert benefiting a greater global community.
You can read more about buildOn and the Indie(PEN)dence Benefit Concert here in an inside interview with one of the event’s organizers, but for now we have dedicated this week’s playlist to those talented bands performing at the concert…check them out!
The Bruised Reed – Husband and wife duo Josh and Kristen Wheeler create absolute female power-pop with The Bruised Reed. There are dreamy melodies and delicate vocals at times, then it’s cutting and fuzzy rock the next. Check them out here!
“Let Me Sleep”
“I Will Speak”
The Paper Sound – Another project of indie-rocker Josh Wheeler, The Paper Sound kills it with a unique Americana indie-folk rock. They’re three albums in and are quickly leaving their fingerprint all over Metro Detroit. Check them out here!
“Find Your Voice”
“I Still Pray”
The Static Dial – With layered melodic textures and an orchestral sense of rhythm and groove, The Static Dial came together as a group of musician friends and have now evolved into a permanent trio. They play an indie-rock, but change it up now and then with Detroit rock attitude and history. Check them out here!
Moonwalks – A groovy, psychedelic indie pop-rock, Moonwalks are full of originality. They combine elements of ‘60s pop and modern rock to create a distinctive sound that’s all their own. Check them out here!
