The Paper Sound is anything but ordinary. Sure, sure, you may think they’re just another indie band, falling lost within the hundreds of others that came before, what makes them so different? And at surface level, with guitar (Josh Wheeler), drums (Nate Sjogren), bass (John Miller) and singer (Phil Kinney) they might appear to be just that: another band – but don’t let that scare you off…
There’s something special brewing within the Detroit four-piece band, and we’re not the first ones to have taken notice. They go so far beyond a simple, catchy tune and make music that inspires.READ MORE: Pontiac Woman Charged After Allegedly Stabbing 75-Year-Old Sleeping Grandfather
With driving guitar melodies, touches of Americana, and flashes of power pop, The Paper Sound have cultivated a sound that is uniquely their own….and it’s lighting up Detroit.
Imagine a sound that rings similar to Radiohead while, at the same time, bringing in the soulfulness of Neil Young and symphonic sounds of Death Cab For Cutie. Quite an eclectic mix of musicians, don’t you think?
Well, that’s because The Paper Sound blends together the best of each of them – they’re not defined by any one genre. Guitarist Josh Wheeler said it perfectly, “Since all good genres have ‘post’ or ‘core’ in them, we’d probably describe it as ‘post-indie-rock-moody-Americana-power-pop-core.”
They illuminate audiences with their uniquely powerful tunes and CW50 was lucky enough to be gifted the chance to debut one exclusive track off of their new album.READ MORE: Gov. Whitmer Threatens Profit Seizure If Pipeline Keeps Operating
