Alright, alright so we may have told you State Champs! was going on a holiday break but before we do we wanted to share with you some of our favorite highlights and specials from the past decade. That's right State Champs! is TEN YEARS old and moving into the terrible teen years.  Time flies when you love high school sports!

This week on the top down we take you back to a memorable boys basketball game in 2004 and a hard checking hockey game in 2008. And let's not forget about when a local high school band who traveled all the way to the United States capital for the President Obama's first inauguration.

We'll also bring back highlights from the Birmingham Brother Rice vs Farmington Hills Harrison football playoff game in 2010 and some double overtime playoff hockey from back in '08 as Detroit Catholic Central battled Northville on the ice.  We'll even warm you up with the thought of spring with highlight the extra inning classic softball state championship from 2009 between Alpena and Garden City.

But before we end the first part of the Best of a Decade of State Champs!, Lorne Plant takes us inside a State Champs! Emmy award winning piece about the tragedy of a talented track and field coach from Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard, who lost his life too soon in a plane crash.
