STATE CHAMPS! Catholic League Clash, Rugby, Hometown NFL Draft Picks

Host Lorne Plant and the STATE CHAMPS! team continue to highlight some of the best the high school spring sports seasons are delivering.  This week we feature a pair of Catholic League clashes on the diamond.

First, the Livonia Ladywood softball team are in the midst of their first season after winning their first ever State Championship, but perennial foe Farmington Hills Mercy came in on a hot streak.

Next, currently the number one ranked team in Division 2 baseball is Dearborn Divine Child.  They welcomed in longtime rival in D-1 state ranked U of D Jesuit.  In girls soccer, two of the best teams the KLAA have to offer met on the pitch as Brighton invaded Hartland.  Bet you've never seen high school girls rugby highlights on TV, you will this Sunday as Lakeview traveled to Berkely.

Our main event was an east-west matchup between two tradition-rich programs as Detroit Country Day traveled to East Grand Rapids to take on the Pioneers.

We go in-focus this week on Charger Super Saturday that took place last weekend at Southfield Lathrup. Beat writer Tom Markowski discusses our former high school football stars who were drafted in the NFL recently, and Sean Baligian will update our Warrior Sports High School Lacrosse Player of the Year Race.

Presented by Lawrence Technological University, STATE CHAMPS! is your inside source for high school sports.

STATE CHAMPS! can be seen Sundays at 11:30 am on CW50 Detroit.
