How To Help The Families Of Sandy Hook Elementary School Tragedy

Many of us are in shock and left feeling helpless following the horrific tragedy that struck the tight knit community of Newtown Connecticut this past Friday when a gunman walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and took the lives of 20 first-graders and 6 teachers and administrators. Story here.

Here are some options if you'd like to help:

The Sandy Hook School Support Fund, an official fund for victims' families, and the community as a whole, has now been set up by the United Way of Western Connecticut. All donations to this fund will go directly to those affected.

Donate to The Red Cross and/or give blood. The Red Cross provided assistance to first responders, delivered blood to the local hospital where victims were transported and has set up a center for emergency grief counseling.

Newtown Memorial Fund has been set up to first to assist families of the victims with funeral expenses, followed by the design and construction of a suitable lasting memorial to the victims, and lastly to establish a scholarship fund.

The Newtown Parent Connection is assisting with support services, workshops and grief counseling.

The Newtown Memorial Fund is taking donations for the families and community affected. They are also looking for volunteers and help of all kinds.

Emilie Parker Fund - A fund has also been set up to help the family of 6 year old Emilie Parker. Instructions on the Emilie Parker Memorial Account at America First Credit Union (account #5001359).
