Street Beat: Disability ServicesThis week on Street Beat, host Karen Carter looks into issues that impact those with disabilities. First, MaryBeth Kullen, the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Victor Arbulu, the organization’s Managing Director, discuss issues facing those with visual impairments. Then Dylan Secord, a Clinical Social Worker with Deaf C.A.N. (Community Advocacy Network), discusses DEAF C.A.N.’s Behavioral Health Services that provides culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health resources and services to the Deaf. Then Rena Friedberg, the Chief Philanthropy Officer for JARC, explains how this organization helps those with developmental disabilities. Finally, Michigan Protection & Advocacy Services represents the rights of children and adults with disabilities in Michigan. Mark McWilliams, the Director of Public Policy, will explain how they are eliminating employment barriers and protecting people from abuse.
