When it comes to a fun activity for the whole family, it's hard to beat the allure of mini golf. Kids and adults alike love the challenge of playing on these quirky Detroit-area courses.

The Great Lakes Golf Center offers three 18-hole miniature golf courses. Outside, two adventure-style courses keep games fun and interesting. Inside a heated dome – the world's largest – a mountain-style course includes rivers, ponds and waterfalls. Rental for special events or birthday parties is available for all three courses. Great Lakes also offers indoor and outdoor driving ranges, golf lessons from PGA professionals and an indoor, high-definition golf simulator that's as close as you can get to the real thing.

The mini golf course at Oasis Golf Center underwent a total renovation for the 2012 season. Eighteen tropical-themed holes provide a challenging game for any skill level and ensure entertainment for the entire family. Oasis also offers a heated indoor range under its double-decker dome, an outdoor range and golf lessons. During the summer, Oasis' Camp Mirage offers all-day entertainment for kids.

At Paradise Park, visitors are immediately greeted with the bright colors, streams and waterfalls of the mini-golf course. The main waterfall is part of the ninth hole, adding a touch of excitement to the already fun, challenging game. Paradise Park also offers go-carts, soccer cages, a climbing wall, laser tag, trampoline and arcade, making it an ideal spot for special events and parties.

The Putterz course, formerly known as Putt-Putt Golf and Games, features 54 jungle-themed, mini-golf holes. Kids will love the animal statues scattered around the grounds, including an elephant and a candy-striped zebra. Tuesday and Saturday mornings, the course offers an all-you-can-play session with unlimited mini golf plus 15 game-room tokens for $8 per person. In additon to the golf courses and game room, Putterz featuers a batting cage to exhaust the whole family before it's time to head home.

The Royal Oak Golf Center has been serving the Metro Detroit area since opening its driving range in the 1950s. Over the years, it has grown to include a short-game area with a sand bunker, large putting green, lessons for juniors and adults, and of course, an 18-hole mini golf course. The mountain-style adventure course incorporates water hazards, lush landscaping and a fountain to keep the game interesting for everyone. Group rates are available, along with seasonal all-you-can-play pricing.
