Michigan might not have the infamous Hollywood sign, but we have had some impressive Hollywood movies filmed here…and with good reason, too. Firstly, there is Detroit, with a gritty, industrial vibe, Gothic-looking churches, a crystal-clear view of Canada over the river, The Detroit People Mover, and a unique skyline backdrop. Michigan also boasts the history-rich college town of Ann Arbor, white sandy beaches of Lake Michigan along the west side of the state, and a little island right at the tip of the mitten that we like to call Mackinac. With that remarkable list of locations, it’s no wonder why more and more movies are being filmed here.
We recently sat down with Marc Zakalik, a Farmington Hills native and 2008 Screen Arts & Cultures graduate of the University of Michigan. Since graduating, Marc has kept busy working on productions both in and out of Michigan (with many of them right here in the Detroit area), with an impressive resume of feature films.
