Detroit Proud music fans! The first week of November has officially set in and as winter creeps closer and closer, we thought…what a better way to warm up than to curl up with a set of some of the best local bands?
Just in time for Halloween, we’ve got your party playlist all set for you! This week’s edition of Detroit Proud Playlist features some of the most notable musical artists from Detroit and a list-full of up and comers.
Welcome to this edition of the Detroit Proud Weekly Playlist! We’ve dug deep into the alleys of Detroit to find you the best of the known – and the unknown – this city has to offer!
This week’s playlist is loaded with enough singer-songwriters to satisfy even the hungriest of musical hearts – every style from country to Americana to pop – there’s a track for everyone on the list! We’ve also thrown in a few indie-rock bands to balance things out, and a few Detroit old-time favorites, too.
Their sound is not like anything you’ve heard before – especially not here in Detroit. They blend together, in perfect harmony…a mash-up of ‘70s rock and ‘60s pop, maybe a bit of a psychedelic flair, with goofy lyrics and captivating guitar melodies. Imagine if you took the gritty-bluesy rock from The Black Keys, blended in the resonance of the album Disraeli Gears by Cream (make sure you give “Sympathetic Strings” a listen), and then topped it with a poppy beat similar to The Zombies. To be fair, that only paints a small picture of who The Oscillating Fan Club are – one of Metro Detroit’s most promising up-and-coming bands.
We’re betting you’re getting a bit down with all of this cold weather coming in, right? First week of Fall can do that to a person… Well, this week’s playlist is the cure for all of those with the autumn blues. Hear tunes that can say what our hearts can’t, and rock away without a care. Inspiring and optimistic is what we were going for.
Music fans! Get ready to jump head-first into this week’s playlist. We’ve built a set list that captures the heart of blues-rock, the pep of pop-rock, threw in an up-and-coming electronic-master, and splashed in a few old time favorites…there may even be a few that might surprise you!
From bands to crafts to BBQ, check out what went down in Ferndale this weekend at 2013′s DIY Street Fair! We’ve got this year’s #DIYSF re-cap, in words and pictures from…YOU!
St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival is scheduled to make its U.S. debut – could you take a guess at which city it might be headed to? No, it’s not the “typical” cities, New York City or Los Angeles – they’ve chosen Detroit. St. Jerome’s annual Laneway Festival – that grew out of Australia and became one of the biggest musical festivals in the world – will celebrate this year here in Metro Detroit at the Meadow Brook Music Theater on Saturday, September 14th.
