Home Run at the 16th Annual Willie Horton's Batting for Kid

The CW50 Street Team hit a home run at the 16th Annual Willie Horton's batting for kid's event at Comerica Park. Over 400 kids joined us for the excitement of the occasion and for the love of baseball. The kids gathered to run, bat and learn the fundamentals of the game. Kids were split up into teams at different stations to engage closer with their peers and volunteers. Baseball players from the Metro Detroit area were on hand to assist the kids at each stop.

Special Agent David Gelios of the Detroit Division FBI was thrilled to throw the first pitch this year. He explained, "We have a big priority put on community outreach; to know the community we serve so that they can get to know us outside of the job context. This gives us a vehicle to do that."

Don Bosco Hall, DTE Energy, CBS 62/CW50 and many other major businesses sponsor and help contribute to this great event every year. "They can learn about the great game of baseball, but they also can learn about team building and fitness. It's a great opportunity for young people," expressed Charles Small, President of Don Bosco Hall. He went on to describe the event as "a lifetime memory for kids."

By participating in the event the kids have the chance to be judged on batting, hitting and pitching. The winners of each of the categories are invited back to a Tiger's game where they will be awarded by three current Tiger's players and Willie Horton.

The CW50 Street Team once again had a great time at the 16th Annual Willie Horton's Batting for Kids, we can't wait to be back next year!
