'Street Beat' STEM, STEAM, & TEDxDetroit

This week on Street Beat, host Rob Stone looks at technology and the arts.

First she hears about the creative ideas and speaker line-up at this year's TEDxDetroit conference from Charlie Wollborg, Curator of the event, and Khary Turner, Executive Director of the Coleman A. Young Foundation.

Then, Chioke Mose-Telesford, Director of Community Programs, and Celena Mancina, Director of Operations from Grand Circus talk about the Detroit tech scene and the importance of encouraging women to get involved.

Then, Dr. Sibrina Collins, the Executive Director of the STEM Center at Lawrence Technology University, discusses the new facility, what students need to know to get involved in the tech field, and reaching out to minorities.

Finally, Erika Villarreal Bunce, Director of Programs for Living Arts in Southwest Detroit, explains how involvement in the arts at a very young age can improve a child's ability to learn.
