Street Beat Preview: Keeping Kids Safe In And Out Of School

On Saturday, September 26, 2015 Street Beat host Amyre Makupson looks at ways to keep children safe in and out of school.

First, Lisa Carter, the Program Coordinator of AmeriCorps Urban Safety Project, explains how that group is creating safe routes to school.

Then, Willie Burton, Manager of the Project Safe Campus program for Crimestoppers, and intern Jon Dushaj explain how this program reduces crime and problems in school.

Next, Kenzi Bisbing, Education Manager for the Oakland Mediation Center, talks about peaceful conflict resolution.

Finally, Wendy Hilliard, the first African American to compete internationally in rhythmic gymnastics, created the Wendy Hilliard Foundation to provide free and low cost gymnastics training for urban youth.  She discusses why she's bringing the Foundation to Detroit.
