CW50 Street Team Embraces Winter at Erie Ice Daze

Every year people gather in Brownstown Township to celebrate everything winter has to offer. The Lake Erie Ice Daze is a great event that encourages people to be active outdoors and participate in a variety of winter activities. The annual event was held on the grounds of the Lake Erie Metropark. Many families braved the cold to participate in all of the winter fun!

From dogsled rides to snowball fights, families enjoyed spending time together and playing in the snow. Rebecca Covetberman brought her two kids to the event. "We wanted the adventure of seeing the dogsledding and the arts and crafts and the music."

Those looking for some friendly competition could participate in a Snowsnake Competition. Snowsnaking is a traditional Native American winter sport. To win, people attempt to throw their wooden "snow snakes" the farthest along a track. The Street Team's Scott Wolchek and Jen Buhaj had fun trying to beat each other in the competition.

People were also able to head indoors and participate in one of the many activities taking place inside the park's museum. Kids had fun creating their own beaded snowflakes and dancing to live music.

Volunteer Danielle Marshall was happy to help out at the event. "I just had to give back to the community and I've been doing this for sixteen years now", she said.

The Street Team had a great time at the event. Scott and Jen will continue to practice their snowsnaking skills throughout the remainder of winter!
