Asian Corned Beef Fries Up Uniquely Delicious Egg Rolls

It's like I died and went to Chinese Hot Pocket heaven. And I mean that in the best possible way. Imagine your wildest dream about what a Hot Pocket could be and you'll be close to what Asian Corned Beef is up to.

I don't know if they invented this idea, but it's certainly a first in my book. Asian Corned Beef is something every Detroiter should try.

The expertly-crafted rolls are filled with a variety of non-typical ingredients including the popular corned beef and Swiss. I tried both the corned beef and swiss and the ground beef, hot peppers, cabbage and cheese rolls and preferred the latter. The addition of a couple vegetables cut the almost too-rich all meat and cheese roll.

My first bite was crunchy, chewy, meaty and cheesy. These four elements are crucial in many meals in the deep fried savory category. This is certainly not health food (as if you'd be confused), but you won't regret this guilty pleasure.

Everything appears to be made in advance and stored in a deli case by the register.

Another favorite is the deviled eggs which I picked up three for a dollar. The egg was cooked perfectly, the filling was a nice creamy consistency with an unexpected crunch of diced sweet pickle. They are packaged unappealingly, twisted up in plastic wrap, but honestly I'm not sure what would be a better way.

The strip mall location has a good amount of parking available. The decor is sparse. A fish tank and a couple seats for waiting customers is about all you're getting, but who cares right? I was a little surprised by the bulletproof glass in front of the counter, but this is Seven Mile in Detroit after all.

There are three locations in Detroit including the newest location I visited at 14820 W. 7 Mile Rd. The grand opening was in September. The original location is at 2847 E. 7 Mile Rd and their second store opened at 13660 Wyoming St.

The prices are very reasonable with rolls starting around $1.50. Upgrade to grilled chicken, steak or corned beef for a buck more. Extra meaty rolls without cabbage are $3. Check out their full menu and get directions to their locations at Asian Corned Beef's official site.
