Two Episodes Of State Champs Left Before Summer Break
By: Ashley Raymond
DETROIT - Can you believe State Champs! Sports Network is already down to its final two shows of the year! We can’t either! So much has happened in the 2013/14 school year for the good and the bad. Tom Markowski of the Detroit News and Lorne Plant will touch on that in this weeks show but first State Champs! is all about the highlights!
We state the show with some Division 1 and 2 boys’ lacrosse state finals. In D1, Birmingham Brother Rice took on Detroit Catholic Central. Find out if the Warriors captured their 10th straight lacrosse state title in a row. In D2, it’s Detroit Country Day taking on Cranbrook-Kingswood. The Yellowjackets won the past five meetings with the Cranes over the past five years. Could Cranbrook can make a comeback?
We then move to some girls’ lacrosse with Ryan Terpstra for the Division 1 state finals as Rockford takes on Ann Arbor Pioneer. Did the nine seniors on the Rams squad leave it all on the court and take home the hardware?
State Champs! also has some division 1 boys golf state championship action from Michigan State University. Fifteen teams from around the state made the trip, who mastered the greens.
Ashley Raymond puts a twist on a tennis feature this week about Cranbrook’s talented Alexandria Najarian. After winning the state championship in singles for the past three years, find out what happened her senior year.
Lorne Plant partners up with the Perani’s Hockey and Lacrosse World to present the 2014 Warrior Sports Michigan High School Lacrosse Player of the Year Award to one talented player from Metro Detroit. We’ll give you a clue… He’s a two-sport athlete and despite having lacrosse scholarship offers for college, he’s heading to the Ivy League to play football.
It’s all about the state finals and semifinals this week! School is officially out for summer and the spring sports seasons are coming to a close. For our main event we head to Michigan State for a D-1 baseball state semifinal as Grosse Pointe South took on Battle Creek Lakeview.
One more week to go and we promise we’ll go out with a bang. So remember, if it’s Sunday … It’s State Champs!
