In honor of Mother’s Day, Amyre Makupson hosts a Street Beat episode dedicated to foster and adoptive children.
First, Jen Wrayno, the Director of the Michigan Department of Human Services Business Service Center for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, gives us an overview of the need for foster and adoptive parents.
Then, Deana Fisher, Director of Child Welfare for The Children’s Center, and Devin Gough, foster/adoptive parent of Kaylin, discuss what it takes to become a foster parent.
Next, Heidi Raubenolt, the Program Manager from Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange, explains how this non-profit helps find forever families for children waiting for adoption.
Finally, Megan Pennefather, the Campus Coach for the Transition to Independence Program (TIP) Wayne State University and Kevin Riedel, a student in the program, explain how TIP helps young adult foster children make the transition to college.
