Justin Verlander's American Muscle Car Should Be A '57 Chevy

Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander was showing off his orange Lamborghini Aventador at Spring Training recently. Yes, I'm jealous.

Apparently he has an impressive car collection. In addition to the Lambo he has a Ferrari a couple Mercedes and a handful of other exotic foreign cars. The Tigers' ace admitted to having the posters of cars like these on his bedroom walls growing up.

With all the foreign cars in his garage, the question comes to mind -- where is the American muscle? Verlander said he wants a classic muscle car, but he's having trouble finding the right match.

I've found it. This '57 Chevy Bel Air convertible in Ohio is a dream car and it's perfect for a Detroit Tigers ace pitcher. While most of us think of 60's and 70's era muscle cars like the Chevelle SS or the Mustang, Verlander is looking for something unique. I'm not sure if this is a sign of its rarity, but there are only four within a 500 mile radius of Detroit on Cars.com.

You can't argue with the ultra-cool black exterior. Plus the interior is a fairly good match for Tigers' orange.

This particular car is a restoration. That means it has many of the same components that it would have rolled off the assembly line with. In other words it's not a hot rod with some phony engine. The description says it's "investment grade", but since there's no price listed -- the "investment" must be a substantial one.

Full disclosure: When I was in my early teens, my dad bought a powder blue '57. When I got to driving age, he gave me a choice. I could have a one-year-old Chevy pickup or the '57. At the time, I needed a car that I could drive and subconsciously (stupidly) thought that I would eventually get both. Dad sold the '57 to my brother-in-law and now the chances of inheriting it are slim to none. Can you sense my regret?

Michiganders, do you think the '57 is better for JV than the Aventador? Leave a comment and let me know what car you think he should be driving.
