It's not new to see dramatic video showcasing the ruins of Detroit, but when people start strapping on skis and doing tricks off it -- people pay attention.

"We are not supposed to be skiing here," can be heard in a promo video for the film released by Red Bull entitled "Tracing Skylines" follows a group of skiers on a "trip of a lifetime," taking them deep into new and uncharted territory." The 55-minute feature film goes to British Columbia, Switzerland and yes, even Detroit's deteriorating Packard Plant.

The action sports video production company Poor Boyz posted an extended cut of the Detroit segment. One of the skiers, Karl Fostvedt explains why he chose the city for his next project, "As unfortunate as it is that this place has been abandoned by so many people -- I'm just here because I see tremendous potential in the city." He continued, "This place is unreal. It's abandoned. It's big. It's dangerous and it's a challenge."

Apparent residents share the woes of the city with the video crew. They say that there are no jobs, that the city has a bad reputation and it's dangerous (as with any major city) if you're not paying attention. But there's a lot of potential and "blessings coming into the city of Detroit." The public response has been positive with many YouTube comments pouring in supporting the movie and it's somewhat uplifting message about the Motor City. Themes of opportunity, creativity mixed with "ruins porn" beauty are prevalent through the Detroit segment.

According to the official site Poor Boys came from humble beginnings two decades ago rising to a world-class production house. "It all began with one super 8 camera, a guillotine and some tape. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of obsolete technology, Poor Boyz transformed into a turnkey digital production company. Utilizing each and every pixel to their respective potential, the company has shot everything from skiing to surfing to soccer."

"To be somewhere that's as hostile as this place and to leave feeling accomplished was just incredible," said Fostvedt closing out the action-packed video.
