The CW50 Street Team Was Glad To Be Part Of The Change For Arise Detroit

Arise Detroit! Arise and shine, this day is for you! The 7th Annual ARISE Detroit Neighborhoods Day was on a mission. The event is a way for community service and improvement projects to demonstrate pride in the city. ARISE Detroit helps restore and rebuild neighborhoods, prepare schools to welcome back students to class, and recreational activities for families. The CW50 Street Team spent the day at Belle Isle for the Backpack Techno Music Festival; just one of the several activities occurring during the day.

The Backpack Techno Music Festival was fun. The purpose for this event is to collect and donate backpacks and school supplies for Detroit students. The event also provided live entertainment, foods, activities, and DJs playing the tunes of techno music. Jennifer and Sydney had fun jumping in the bouncer, and Krystle and Jennifer "walked the runway" as they modeled some backpacks! Street Team Member Krystle spoke with Mary J. Grant, former Detroit Public school teacher and now book author, explained what inspired her to write her book. "I was a teacher with Detroit Public Schools and I taught reading," Grant said. "So I thought it would be real important to send out a message about reading and how parents can help their children with reading." Also, a special thanks to Rosie Mesterhazy, who donated some backpakcs with school supplies inside.

The Backpack Techno Music Festival was one of the activities going on day for the ARISE Detroit Neighborhoods Day Event.
