Detroit is the place for summer music festivals...and now, more than ever, if you're a local artist! Check out our list below of some of the Detroit area's music festivals (new and old) that are coming this summer - and including some of the terrific acts with Detroit ties.

Orion Music + More Festival
This summer, Metallica is bringing the second annual Orion Music + More Festival to the Detroit area! The Festival will take place on Belle Isle, June 8 & 9, 2013. Oakaloosa
Oakaloosa is a new one-day festival event happening at Detroit's Historic Fort Wayne on Saturday, July 27, 2013. Headlining this new festival are Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Girl Talk. Joining them on the bill will be ten other acts based out of Detroit - including rising stars Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas and Kaleido. This festival aims to be inclusive and diverse in its line-up of artists to attract people who want to have a good time rather than catering to a particular taste or genre. MO POP Festival
MO POP Festival is a brand new festival...and one that's about more than just music. The event includes also features "mo" beer, food, and art. This one-day festival is on August 17th at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, and boasts a line-up of big indie names like Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Andrew Bird, Manchester Orchestra, and more.
