The Race Is On As The CW50 Street Team Covers The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure

The streets of downtown Detroit were packed this past Saturday for the 22nd Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The Street Team captured the event as thousands came together to end breast cancer forever. It was very inspiring to see so many people come together for this great cause. Whether people were walking or running, everyone was there for the same reason.

Some notable personalities even came out for this great event. Congressman John Dingell and U.S. Senator Carl Levin were just two of the many recognizable faces in attendance. These two political figures, along with many other locals, came to support the people who have had cancer recently, two months ago, or even three years ago. If you or someone you know have had this awful diagnosis, you know how terrible it is, but there is hope. The Street Team spoke with Francine Montgomery, who has been in remission for nine months, and said these inspiring words of wisdom, “Just to hear the word “cancer,” you think that’s the end, but it is really not the end, its just the beginning.”

Though most of these individuals have come face-to-face with this frightening disease, they have all come out stronger and more willing to fight. Their strength was truly something to be admired. The Street Team also caught up with Dorene Williams and her team. Dorene said, “I was diagnosed 10 years ago with Stage 4 terminal cancer. They told me I had 1-3 years to live and I’m still here fighting and we are going to find a cure!”

All in all, everyone had a great time running or walking for these amazingly strong women. Check out the Street Team’s video to see some highlights of the event.
