Motor City Comic Con More Than Just Comics

Motor City Comic Con is a 3-day convention hosted at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. It's a place for comic fans to come together and celebrate their favorite comics and meet other people with similar interests. The convention has panels, costume contests, special guests, artists and vendors.

While Motor City Comic Con has comic in its name it's more inclusive than just being about comics. In all honesty, the convention was more pop culture than exclusively comic books. There were special guests from a variety of genres  The big name this year was Stan Lee, creator of Marvel comics. Well known Marvel comics include The Avengers, Thor, X-Men, Iron Man, and Spider Man. Another notable guest was Colin Baker. He was the 6th Doctor in Doctor Who. Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction television show in the world. Another science fiction actor who made an appearance was Edward James Olmos who played Commander Adama from Battlestar Galactica among many other roles.

Comic fans would be satisfied by the large amount of comics available. The science fiction genre had a large showing at the convention with many fans in Star Wars costumes and Doctor Who merchandise.  The CW show Supernatural even had a niche at the event.

The Mandalorian Mercs, a Star Wars Costume Club hosted a charity activity allowing visitors to get their friends and family "arrested" for a fee. Of course it's a great photo op.

Janus Ajax is one of CW50′s summer interns.  I'm a wandering spirit and R2D2 is my favorite Star Wars character.  Follow me on twitter @JanusAjax or find me on tumblr at JanusAjax.tumblr.com and do whatever it is that you want to do.
