NEW YORK (CW50) - Tired of the same old fast food burger? Wendy’s is hoping the answer is “yes.”
The chain is reportedly testing a brand-new concept in burgers that could soon be on its way to metro Detroit: pretzel buns.
That’s right, the chain is testing buns that are weightier than the traditional sesame seed bun to make it more of a high-end product. Wendy’s has its own bakery, and is tweaking the recipe and trotting it out in some markets, including northern Ohio. The company has been mum on the expected price or rollout schedule.
So far, the Internet buzz is good, with people lighting up Twitter with reviews and questions.
“Wendy’s just won fast food with their pretzel bun,” Max Petro wrote on Twitter.
Christopher Wallace wrote, “If I had my car right now, I’d be going to Wendy’s for a pretzel bun bacon burger. Lol.”
According to the Associated Press, Wendy’s executives have already said they plan to use better breads as a relatively low-cost way to raise perceptions about food quality. It comes amid rising costs for beef.
