Hottest Holiday Makeup Trends 2012

DETROIT (CW50) The biggest nights of the year for festivities are coming up fast -- Christmas and New Year's Eve -- and you, of course, want to make sure you're on trend.

So what are the newest ways to look hot for the holidays? Here are the top makeup trends of 2012.

Go Glitter

All that glitters may not be gold -- it may be silver, purple, pink or icy or icy white. Those glittery, colorful eyeshadows are all on-trend for the holidays in 2012. Think blue glitter nail polish or icy silver eyeshadow -- even sprinkle a bit in your hair with a product like Cheer Chics hair and body spray glitter. There's no such thing as going overboard on the holidays. You can choose whether or not to remember that when the cookies get passed around.

Think Pink

You know that flushed just-off-the slopes glow that makes every face look fresh and pretty? You can fake it anytime. Grab a pink product like Benetint, a rosy glow that whisks on with a tiny brush and leaves a fresh rose scent. It's a blush that doesn't look fake or cakey -- and creates a perfect rosy glow. Add a fuschia pink lipstick if you really want to be the star of the show.

Drama It Up

If you're usually the meek and mild type, the holidays are the perfect time to break out of your shell. Go big or go home. Think deep burgundy lips paired with a smoky, dramatic eye. Get more on creating that look HERE.

Get Your Glow On

Late nights, early mornings -- with more to do in-between -- can leave your skin in less than tip-top shape, but nothing says "I'm ready for the holidays," like fresh, dewy skin. Think about highlighting your skin with something like the L'Oreal Magic Illuminator -- It covers a multitude of skin sins. You can also mix it up with light self-tanner that covers flaws and makes it look like you just stepped off a private jet. Think about a build-a-tan product like Philosophy's Here Comes The Sun Gradual Self Tanner.
