Want To Be A Star? Check Out This Grammy Contest

DETROIT -- Remember that scene in "8 Mile" where a down-and-out factory worker played by Eminem started rapping in a parking lot, and the next thing you know he was big time?

Cut to your real life.

A contest is offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a toehold on the national spotlight by performing during the Grammy Live weekend, three days of live coverage and events leading up to music's biggest night -- the 55th annual Grammy Awards, that will air Sunday Feb. 10, 2013, locally on CBS 62.

The contest involves setting up a Facebook page for the artist or band you're supporting (or your own), filling out an online registration and having a video ready to go of the band performing an original song. Get started on the contest's Facebook page HERE, where you'll be prompted to share your nomination with a special button on the page, and then VOTE starting January 10.

There will be two rounds of public voting that ends January 24.

The winner will be announced on Jan. 29, and flown out to Los Angeles to participate in GRAMMY Live events, culminating in a live performance in front of a live audience and webcast to fans around the globe.

"Last year's 'Garage To GRAMMYs' contest was an amazing experience for us as a band and as individual musicians. To be surrounded with the top hitters in the music industry during music's biggest week was humbling and exciting," said Almost Kings, last year's contest winner. "We are forever grateful that our fans gave us the opportunity and memories of a lifetime as a part of the 54th GRAMMYs experience.  CBS and all involved brought us Georgia boys to Los Angeles with open arms and provided us with an experience that we will never forget!"
