Fashion Week-Student Showcase

Forget New York Fashion Week!  Detroit Fashion week has introduced Detroit as a new fashion capital!

The week was filled with great events...The Blueprint Launch Party, the YSC fundraising event (which was very successful), the Student Showcase and Party By Design, and the Designer Showcase and after party at KaCent.

I had the opportunity to attend The Blueprint and to host the Student Showcase for the first time!  I was blown away by the quality of the show and the number of people that attended!

Fashion week was my most anticipated event when I became a Detroit's Gossip Girl, and the event did not disappoint!  It really felt like a NY fashion show...unlike anything I have ever seen in the D!

The show was held at Willy's Overland Lofts in Detroit.  The setting was perfect…spacious, trendy, and modern.  The space hosted a beautiful white runway, a stage and bar for the party after, and a few vendor set-ups.  The red carpet and photo area made it even more glamorous!

I introduced the show to a large fashion-forward and very welcoming crowd.  After my cue to "Start the Show" we were all wowed by beautiful models strutting their stuff on the catwalk in a variety of designs by local students.  There were a number of fierce fashions that I was ready to purchase on the spot...who knew there were so many talented designers in the D?!!

The show featured everything from crazy to elegant...casual to chic.  All 17 designers showed collections to be proud of!

After the show, I had the privilege of surprising Mariella Amador with the Katerina Bocci Heart of Design Award.  Katerina honored Mariella for her efforts in designing 4 looks for the YSC fundraiser.  Not only can she design, but she does it for a great cause!  It was such an honor!  Mariella is very talented and very deserving.  She was so thrilled that she shed tears of joy.  Congrats to her!

The event continued after the show with Party By Design.  The happening party was put on by DIFFA and featured a live band, and 2 hot DJs!  Thanks to all the sponsors, staff, volunteers, models, and designers who made Fashion Week…..especially Brian Heath!

XOXO,

Bethany
