Sunday, September 25, 2011

This week on Street Beat, Syma Chowdhry and the community correspondents look at what is being done to build and strengthen our neighborhoods.

First, Syma talks with David Szymanski, the Wayne County Chief Deputy Treasurer, about the upcoming on-line auction of homes in the county.

Then Community Correspondent Ken Bryant interviews Vincent Tilford, Executive Director of Detroit Habitat for Humanity, about their “sweat equity” program that gives homes to people who otherwise couldn’t afford them.

Next Community Correspondent Ber-Henda Williams gets the details about one of the newest communities in Detroit from Matt Clayson, Executive Director for The Detroit Creative Corridor Center.

Finally Syma learns about a grassroots organization rebuilding another Detroit community from Khalil Ligon, manager of LEAP – Lower Eastside Action Plan.
