Nominate a Shining Light

Something to Celebrate

You can nominate a deserving individual who is making an impact on Metro Detroit for a very prestigious award.

More than ever, regional cooperation is crucial to the success of Metropolitan Detroit.  It's an essential key to creating the common vision and commitment needed to improve our region's economic competitiveness and quality of life.

Building cooperation and teamwork between communities can be a challenging and sometimes unrewarding task. Individuals who take risks, possibly jeopardizing their political futures, by thinking and acting regionally should be honored and rewarded for their courage and fortitude.

If you know someone who is making important contributions to regional cooperation, progress, and understanding in southeast Michigan, you can nominate that person for a Shining Light Regional Cooperation Award.

The Detroit Free Press and Metropolitan Affairs Coalition have partnered to present the prestigious Shining Light Awards.  These awards are named after and honor individuals well known for their extraordinary contributions to metropolitan Detroit – Neal Shine, Marian Ilitch, Eleanor Josaitis, and Dave Bing.

They are currently accepting nominations for:

• Neal Shine Award for Exemplary Regional Leadership
• Eleanor Josaitis "Unsung Hero" Award
• Dave Bing Future Leader Award

Award recipients will be recognized at a breakfast ceremony to be held on Oct. 13 at the Ford Conference and Event Center in Dearborn, MI.

Nominations are due by July 8.  For more information on how to nominate someone for a Shining Light Award or to attend the breakfast ceremony, visit www.shininglightawards.com.
