DGGs welcome a new season with Spring Fantasia!

Last month, I had the honor of interviewing Carla Milarch and Don Calamia on CW50's community show Street Beat.   We talked about theatre in Detroit and touched on The Performance Network's big event, Spring Fantasia.  The fundraiser took place over the weekend, and of course, your DGGs were there to cover the whirlwind of fun!

The Performance Network, located in Ann Arbor, is known for producing award-winning plays and reaching 40,000 theatre patrons every year!  In an effort to raise money for the Network and its education and outreach programs (The Children's theatre network, Fireside Festival of New Works), Spring Fantasia gave patrons a behind-the-scenes look at how a theatre house works!

The DGGs and I had too much fun literally "playing" make-believe on stage!  A strolling buffet greeted us before entering the actual theatre where we watched the most entertaining live auction I've ever experienced.  Go! Comedy improv troupe gave us hilarious renditions of each item up for grabs.  From Pistons executive suite tickets to handyman services, these talented comedians provided laugh-out-loud moments completely on-the-fly!  Now that's what I call entertainment!

Following the auction, the DGGs took the stage to judge a phenomenal fashion show.  The designs were elaborate and gorgeous, all fit for the stage.  As we watched the models stroll the theatre, I quickly realized this would not be an easy decision.  Each DGG had a clipboard with the designers' names and descriptions, along with a place to take notes.  In the end, Bethany, Danielle, and I were almost unanimous in our decisions! I guess when it comes to fashion, your DGGs think alike ;)  We announced the winners, but every design was absolutely stunning!

What a night!  The best part? 100 percent of proceeds went to The Performance Network.   I find events like this to be imperative for our community.  Theatre in Detroit has been around for over 100 years and we need continued support for events like Spring Fantasia to keep this unparalleled art-form running!

You know you love me, XOXO

Lauren
