The biggest music event of the year, The GRAMMYS, is finally here! The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place (LIVE) on February 13th at 8pm on our sister station WWJ-TV CBS Detroit. Join the rest of America as we watch another day in music history being made.
I think it’s pretty evident that this year’s GRAMMYS race is going to be a tight one. When you have some of the nation’s top music artists like Drake and Justin Bieber fighting for Best New Artist…or Eminem and Lady Gaga “duking” it out for Album of the Year, it can be a dog fight. Luckily, it’s a fight we would love to watch!
Along with popular nominees, you can expect to see more than a few popular performers from all walks of music. So far there have been announced performances by Rihanna, B.O.B., Adam Lambert, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Usher, Drake, and too many others to name! Selena Gomez, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and a few more celebs will present awards for the night.
Legendary Detroit music icon Aretha Franklin will join elite company Sunday night when she receives the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. Franklin is most known for her mega-hit Respect and just a few months ago, she underwent surgery. Although the surgery was kept under tight wraps, the legend says she’s in excellent health. The tribute for Aretha Franklin will include a segment of today’s favorite R&B stars performing (individually and collectively) some of Franklin’s greatest hits.
Another Detroit native, Eminem, is also looking to have a night to remember…thanks to the fact he’s up for 9 nominations in 8 different categories! Eminem’s actually nominated twice in the Best Rap Song of the Year category, once for Love the Way You Lie and once for his breakout hit Not Afraid. Love the Way You Lie was a huge track for both Eminem and his co-star on the track, R&B superstar Rihanna, and it’s up for 5 different nominations! Just to add to his plethora of success…his latest album Recovery is nominated for both Album of the Year and Best Rap Album! Score! Good luck Eminem…and you can believe The Motor City has got your back.
This Sunday is going to be a big day in the music business and WWJ-TV has got you covered. Remember to tune in Sunday, February 13th, at 8pm to CBS Detroit, for complete coverage of The 53rd Annual GRAMMYS!
