Literacy and Classical Music

Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 11:30am – Street Beat will not be seen this week.  In its place, CW50 Detroit will air American Black Journal

This week Stephen Henderson of The Detroit Free Press talks with a man who, although he was a professional educator, read at only a second grade level for more than half of his life. John Corcoran, Literacy Expert and Author of The Bridge to Literacy,  is here to discuss this topic.  The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s contract disputes bring up the questions . . . What is the relevance of the DSO? What happens if we lost a professional orchestra in Detroit? Aaron Dworkin, Founder & President of the Sphinx Organization is here to discuss that and teaching classical music to Detroit’s Youth.
