Community Sharing

Meet Me in Milford

This time of year, people all around the metro-Detroit area are opening their hearts and their wallets to help those in need. I recently found out about a local business who has been helping the needy for 14 years.  Here's their storyand details on how you can help them help others:

Downtown Milford's Rottermond Jewelers is partnering with local agency Community Sharing to provide 10 needy families in the community with clothing, holiday dinner assistance, household items and more for Christmas.

This is the 14th year the business has partnered with Community Sharing. Donations are currently being accepted from Rottermond's dedicated clientele and the community at large. In addition to donations provided by Rottermond, individuals are encouraged to purchase gift certificates from Meijer, Walmart or Target, or donate cash, and bring the gifts to Rottermond Jewelers by Dec. 10.

"It's a really rewarding experience and our clients look forward to it," said Deb LaFrate of Rottermond. "Since the recession, the need is even greater and this program provides needy families with so much for their children and the entire family at the holidays."

Community Sharing, a 501©3 charity, serves residents of Milford, Highland and the Stratford Villa and Commerce Meadows mobile home communities in Wixom.

"Events like this really showcase how dedicated downtown Milford's businesses are to giving back, not just at the holidays but all year," said Ann Barnette, director of Milford's Downtown Development Authority.

For more information, call Rottermond Jewelers at 248-685-1150, ext 18 or e-mail me at deb@rottermond.com.  Rottermond Jewelers is located at 351 North Main Street in downtown Milford.
